Taroudant is a town and province of the Region
Souss-Massa-Draa, east of Agadir Morocco.
Taroudantwas a trading post on the way of caravans
coming from other provinces, and that's thanks to its gold and silver mines,
the town developed remarkably in the 11th century and it had indeed a
great influence over Moroccan civilization.
Taroudant is a city with more than 30,000
inhabitants, located between the High Atlas and Anti Atlas mountain ranges, about 80 km
from the coast.
Taroudant's economic baseis handicrafts, trade of
agriculture produce and light industries, the city is is famous for its pink
houses, and fortified walls which are in excellent condition, and that
represent the borders of the city in all but the eastern
direction.
Taroudant has very little French colonial architecture, which is
unusual for a city of its size, it is such an
important tourist destination, with the so many typical sights in town, such as
the tanners place, the berber market, the city walls as well as the high atlas
mountains around.
