The argan is one of the symbols ofthe region
of
taroudant and of all the southern Moroccan cities, it is one of the basic rural
economies which exists hundreds of years ago. Its foliage and the pulp of
the fruit provide food forcaprins and the camels, peopleuse wood for
fire and to manufacture articles of household while the fruit is for the manufacturing
of the argan oil.
The argan oil has a high nutritional value and also a high value
on the local market. The argan is also at the base of an ecological system,
the argans act like a natural tool against the turning into a desert thanks to
their adaptability with the dryness and theirroots, thatcan reach
a 30 meters depth and that enables them to act as an "elevator of
water" for the other plants which exist near theargan trees.
Despite
these facts, the argan is sometimes looked like "awkward",
particularly in the plains of Souss where they take huge spaces, farmers would prefer to plant orange trees or many tomatos under
greenhouses, otherwise, the increase in the population harms the well being of
the tree which undergoes the increase in the requirements of wood and
excess for pasture due to the cattle.
The argan oil is prepared
in a traditional way all over the south of Moroccoand exclusively by the women, the production
of one liter of Argane oil takes approximately 8 working hours, the color looks
like the color ofthe sand of the desert. It is very soft and
according
to the same principle as in the Mediterranean countries.
one pours some in a
cupola to soak his bread there, itis useful, natural and better not to attend a dash of vinegar.
